Berberine is the active ingredient of broad pharmacological interest; in fact, numerous activities are attributed to this substance: adrenergic, antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiplatelet, antioxidant, antiproliferative (used in conditions such as psoriasis), cardiovascular, cholinergic, hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, immunomodulatory, and muscle relaxant.
